Of these five schools located in five different cities, three are run by municipalities, one by the regional medical association, and one by a hospital. Four of the five schools offer night classes, one offers a full-time program, and none are technical schools. The schools were established between 1966 and 1972. Since that time, the capacity for each grade level has remained unchanged for one school, decreased for another, and increased for the other three, with a total number of 190 students enrolled in each grade level at the five schools in 2006. The main objective for establishing these schools was to set up advanced nursing programs for junior nurses in order to enhance the level of regional medicine. Moreover, the regional medical association had also requested that such schools be established. The educational curriculum abides by specific rules and more than two-thirds of the students graduating from these schools are employed locally.
