The analysis in this report is based on information obtained by; a) reviewing literature concerning nursing reforms, b) identifying primary sources, and c) interviewing three nurses who had worked in the post-war era. The results showed: 1. The nursing reforms were discussed and implemented in the Nursing Laws and Nursing Licensure, in the establishment of model schools, and in the revision of the nursing curriculum. 2. The only primary sources available were some documents obtained from General Headquarters (GHQ). 3. The influence of the nursing reforms revealed that ; l)nursing schools were rearranged after inspections were carried out by GHQ, 2)a female nurse took up the position of Chief of the Nursing Department in Aornori Prefectural Office, 3)nurses became more aware of what nursing entails, 4)nursing teachers started to teach students about patient-centered care, 5)many practicing nurses participated in refresher courses and they taught their learning to other staff members at their hospital.
