 note = {application/pdf, The infant mortality rate of Aomori prefecture had been the highest nationwide in recent years. We therefore started this research project about the present conditions and problems of health in the perinatal period in Aomori prefecture from 2002. From 2003, we conducted surveys on all pregnant women in Aomori. We surveyed these women 3 times in total during their first trimester, the second trimester, and after delivery. The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the results of the first trimester. Comparing the awareness about the mothers' health before and after pregnancy, there was a rise in health awareness after becoming pregnant. Most of the pregnant women were satisfied with the information given by hospitals and clinics on the term of pregnancy and it seems that awareness about health issues was increased due to this information. Awareness regarding eating habits, exercise and daily life were altered a little in non-pregnant women but not as much with pregnant women.
