Nine subjects who had agreed to participate in this study were interviewed regarding those problems, and the interview responses were qualitatively analyzed. The analysis revealed five psychosocial problems: 1) anxiety about the family having to be the only party to give daily care, 2) the need for an environment in which the family could receive immediate consultation, 3) stress of having to maintain an environment that is optimal for care and treatment, 4) expectations and reservations about chemotherapy being the sole treatment, and 5) distortion in family relationships caused by disagreements regarding the proper treatment to a patient with limited life.
