| 内容記述 | This paper will firstly trace the history of the Burakumin minority group as an oppressed social group and the emergence of the Burakumin Liberation League as a political force. It will then go on to assess the state of reporting upon the Burakumin and its impact, leading into an examination of the influence of non-reporting on the Burakumin. Also, the relationship of the main Burakumin political movement, the Burakumin Liberation League (BLL) , and the media will be explored in the context of the implications for the perpetuation of discrimination and non-reporting. The contention of this paper is that through the mass media the alleviation of discrimination against the Burakumin could be achieved more effectively on a macro level in Japanese society, and the media stance of non-reporting of Burakumin issues has helped to perpetuate discrimination against them. Without effective exposure through popular media, such as television, radio, and newspapers, which would help to, at the very least, restrict or diffuse the permeation of discriminatory ideology in society, peripheral strategies such as international pressure, punitive laws and economic support are not enough to alleviate this discrimination. | |||||
