| 内容記述 | This study was performed based on an agreement between Aomori University of Health and Welfare and Inje University. The purpose of this paper is to report on a study of disabled persons living at home with their families. The study was conducted by a visiting team that consisted of Korean and Japanese physiotherapists in Pusan, Korea, during two days in September 2003. Method : The meeting with the subjects was arranged by a physiotherapist from Inje University Hospital. All six participants were male stroke patients with an average age of 57 years. They were selected from volunteers discharged from the hospital. Two evaluation tools were used. One was the Barthel Index (BI), used to assess ADL (total score : 100 points), and the other was an assessment by the Family Relationship Chart (FRC), an assessment tool concerning human relationships between the patient and his/her family members (total score : 36 points). Result : 1) All the disabled persons were very severely disabled and carefully nursed by their spouses (average age : 53). All of them complained about unhealthy conditions. Four out of six subjects scored one point on the BI and four subjects gave no responses to the FRC questions. 2) There are almost no public service resources in this area for the disabled at home, neither community based rehabilitation, nor medical or nursing care. 3) It seemed that the spouses' enthusiastic care negatively affected their husbands' motivation to recover. Conclusion : This pilot study suggests that physiotherapists in Korea need to focus on patients and their families after patients are discharged from hospital. How to intervene in the relationship between disabled persons and their families at home is an important issue that should be tackled in physiotherapy education in Korea and Japan. | |||||
