| 内容記述 | An investigation was conducted with the purpose of clarifying the status of training for nurses (termed "kangofu" at the time) during the Meiji Period in Aomori Prefecture with a focus on the actual condition of first-aid training for nurses at the Aomori Chapter of the Japanese Red Cross Society (below, "the JRC"). The investigation was performed as a literary examination using the book "A One Hundred Year History of the Red Cross in Aomori Prefecture" as a main source. First, an outline of nurse training in Japan and nurse training at the Headquarters of the JRC during the Meiji period was examined, to review the temporal relationship with the start of training at the Aomori Chapter. Organized nursing training started in Japan in 1885, at the Headquarters of the JRC in 1890, and at the Aomori Chapter in 1896. Nursing training at the Aomori Chapter of JRC was carried out by sending nurses for training to the Headquarters of JRC and other regional Red Cross Hospitals. Between 6 and 8 nurses per year were trained in the Meiji period, 63 nurses in total. The objective of this training was to provide first-aid during the war and times of disaster. During the Meiji period, there was an increase in demand for first-aid nurses because of the start of wars, which then continued. As well as female nurses, male nurses and provisional first-aid nurses taken from general nursing staff were also trained. | |||||
