| 内容記述 | 本稿は、インド国西ベンガル州に住む少数民族の一つであるサンタル民族の女性のサリーの着方をとりあげ、ヒンドゥー化を論じたものである。異なる文化をもつ人々が相近接して暮らしている場合、上位の文化や生活規範を下位の人々が取り入れるという傾向はよくみられることである。本研究の対象であるサンタル民族も近隣のヒンドゥー人口の文化に大きな影響を受けている(ヒンドゥー化)。そのヒンドゥー化の一例として、国勢調査において宗教をヒンドゥー教と申告することは指摘されている通りである。他の例として、サンタル女性のサリーの着方がある。日常的には伝統的な着方をするものの、正式なあるいは改まった場に出る際には、ヒンドゥー女性の着方をする。ここにも、サンタル民族が、自民族の文化を「下位」に、ヒンドゥーの文化を「上位」に位置づけているという意識を認めることができる。開発と発展の中で、多くの少数民族は生活の場(森林や原野などの自然)を失い、多数人口と近接して生活する中で、多数人口の下位に位置づけられていく。そして、下位の人口は上位の人口の文化を取り入れるようになり、やがて民族としての意識や誇りが失われていくようになる。これは民族としてのアイデンティティーを失いつつある状況と捉えることができる。開発は、少数民族が暮らしていくことを困難にし、少数民族が少数民族としてのアイデンティティーを失っていく過程でもある。少数民族が、自分たちのアイデンティティーをどのように守っていくかは、サンタル民族のみならず、多くの少数民族にとっても大きな課題である。 This paper reports on cultural changes in the lifestyle of the Santal, one of the Indian ethnic minorities, who have been experiencing changes during the process of development, namely Hinduisation, with special reference to women's attire. The Bengal population extended their habitat to the areas where the Santal lived, as development advanced. The Santal came under the strong influences of Bengal culture, as the Bengal population lived near to them. The Santal, who once enjoyed their simple life close to nature, have been exposed to modernisation and marketisation. Many researchers have pointed out that the ethnic minorities have been changing their way of life due to Hinduisation, thus causing loss of their ethnic identities. Changes bring both good things and bad things. Some people are willing to accept changes while others are not. One of the fatal points of these changes is that the ethnic minorities regard their culture as inferior to that of the general population and take in the general population's culture as 'formal' or 'a good thing to follow.' It is high time to consider what the Santal should preserve as their culture to maintain their ethnic identity. |
